Heating
Heating
Most homes in Australia will need to be heated during the course of a year. Depending on the climate, heating and/or cooling can account for 20 to 50 per cent of energy used in Australian homes. Globally, energy demand for heating of buildings is projected to increase until 2030.The safe design and use of heaters are paramount. Standards Australia found that the number of house fires had increased by 10 per cent in the colder months, with many incidents caused by heaters and electric blankets.
The heating industry is working with regulators and government to mitigate or resolve these issues. This includes developing guidance to support consumer energy needs and enacting minimum energy performance standards to help consumers make energy-conscious decisions when purchasing their heating devices.
Engineers are busy developing more efficient heating solutions for every need from heat pumps to solar thermal systems, boilers to fuel cells, radiators to in-slab floor heating.
